In an interview with Forbes, Qualcomm’s VP of marketing Tim McDonough, has once again shot down rumors of the Snapdragon 810 chip overheating. McDonough says that the rumors are “rubbish” and that there are no “overheating problem with the Snapdragon 810 in commercial devices.” As for all the rumors floating around, McDonough says that since Qualcomm was the first to the market with its “premium-tier” Snapdragon 810 chipset in the LG G Flex 2, “somebody” decided to spread false rumors about the chip overheating....

The Qualcomm 845 will also be offering a 30% increase in the graphics performance. The new Kyro 385 design will be based on ARM cores and will be built on Samsung’s 2nd-gen 10nm process. The SoC will now come with an L3 cache with 2MB of memory along with a private L2 cache. As always the SoC will be manned by a set of high power and low power cores....

It’s looking increasingly like facial recognition will replace Touch ID as the biometric unlock and Apple Pay authorization method in the iPhone 8 – with Apple likely to be selling this as one of the headline features. But any technical advantage Apple’s facial recognition system may offer over Android phones will be short-lived, claims chipmaker Qualcomm, promising that its upcoming chip will match or beat the iPhone 8’s performance …...

If you are looking to get an iPhone at the low, low price of only $99, but not sure 8 GB will be enough space for you, you may want to try RadioShack. According to a new training document sent out earlier today, the black or white 16 GB version of Apple’s “iconic device” is only $99.99 with a new two-year contract. Although the document does state the offer is good on all three iPhone carriers, it is safe to assume that the 16 GB is not available on Sprint, because Apple never shipped a Sprint-compatible version of the 16 GB iPhone 4....

KGI’s Mingchi Kuo, an analyst with an excellent track record, has disputed an earlier suggestion by web analytics company Localytics that the iPhone 5s is outselling the 5c three-to-one, suggesting that actual sales are closer to 50/50 – with 5c sales actually likely to be somewhat higher. KGI estimates that the 9M initial sales comprised 3.5-4.5M iPhone 5s, and 4.5-5.5M iPhone 5c. The confidential briefing document points out that analytics data is based on activation (or, more specifically, use of the phone to browse the web and run certain apps), which is not the same as sales....

Apple has released macOS Catalina today with several new features, including Sidecar. Using a Mac with the latest operating system and an iPad with iPadOS 13, it’s now possible to turn the iPad into a second, fully interactive display. To interact with the Mac system through the iPad, however, users needs an Apple Pencil. And that has limited the functionality of the Sidecar feature for some iPad models. Apple has decided to restrict Sidecar only to iPads with Apple Pencil support....

Asia-based rumor site Apple Daily has acquired photos of what it claims are the next-generation iPhone, including the 5.5-inch model we’ve seen much less of in recent weeks. The two photos above show the larger device (with the purple interior) paired with a 4.7-inch version. The wider 5.5-inch model is to the right and the 4.7 display panel is on the left. While some may note that the part on the right does not appear much larger than the part on the left, it is possible that the image’s perspective does not highlight the size differentiation well....

Go gained generics in Go version 1.18 released in March, when it was described as ‘Go’s most often requested feature’, so it’s not surprising it has since been quickly adopted. According to the June 2022 Go developer survey, over a quarter of the 5,752 respondents have started using generics in their Go code. Go is the 16th most popular programming language, according to developer analyst, Redmonk’s January 2022 rankings. Todd Kulesza, a UX designer on Go, noted in a blogpost that the addition of generics was welcome, but noted that about a third of developers are running into some limitations of its initial implementation....

The security researcher who identified a serious flaw in Apple’s Gatekeeper reports that the vulnerability remains despite two security patches applied by the company. Each, he says, only blocks the specific apps he used to demonstrate the method. Gatekeeper in theory allows users to ensure that their Mac will only run apps downloaded from the Mac App Store – or alternatively, signed by a known developer if you opt for a lower level of protection....

The Punisher actor Ben Barnes has shared the first ever deleted scene from one of Marvel’s Netflix shows. The Marvel Netflix series were a tremendous success - right up until the moment they weren’t, and the partnership between Marvel Television and Netflix fell through. It was a massive blow to Marvel Television, particularly because they weren’t yet ready to announce future shows on Hulu and Disney+. Apple today officially confirmed the WWDC 2021 schedule, saying that the week will kick off with a special event keynote on June 7. Now, leaker Jon Prosser has said that new MacBook Pros are coming at WWDC. This comes after Bloomberg reported last week that new Apple Silicon MacBook Pros could come as soon as this summer. Prosser made this claim on Twitter today, responding to speculation that the new artwork for WWDC 2021 could be hinting at a new MacBook Pro announcement....
