Nowadays, U.S. carriers subsidize the full price of the device with an estimated $400, so those willing to commit to a two-year contract end up paying just $199 upfront for the hardware…...

On the heels of the latest US stimulus bill passing the House and Senate, Democrats revealed the Accessible, Affordable Internet for All Act this morning. The proposed legislation includes an investment of $94 billion over the next three to four years to improve nationwide internet access, speeds, and offer subsidies. Reported by The Washington Post, the Accessible, Affordable Internet for All Act proposal was sponsored by 30 House and Senate Democrats....

Leaks regarding the iPhone 7 have been plentiful so far this year. We’ve seen a handful of schematic drawings, component pictures, and a few purported photos of the device itself. Qualcomm CEO Paul Jacobs went on “Charlie Rose” last night to discuss a range of topics, including Apple. Jacobs notably told an anecdote (around 3:00) of when he tried to persuade Apple in the 1990s to put a Qualcomm radio in the Newton PDA, but his pitch failed. He also apparently took his Newton to Palm, with it taped to a Palm Pilot brochure, and pitched the idea of integrating Palm’s OS into a Qualcomm smartphone....

In a new interview with Bloomberg today, Qualcomm CEO Steve Mollenkopf touched on the company’s evolving relationship with Apple. Following the bitter legal battle between the two companies, Mollenkopf says things feel “much more natural now.” The two were engaged in a bitter legal battle over patent royalties, with Apple accusing Qualcomm of “double dipping” and Apple withholding payments to the chipmaker entirely. Right as the actual trial began, however, Apple and Qualcomm announced a blockbuster settlement at the last minute....

If you use the Kids sections in the App Store for finding appropriate apps for children, you might want to be careful until Apple fixes a bug that’s currently displaying the wrong apps for kids. Specifically, the “Kids” category under the App Store’s Top Charts section is currently displaying apps that should go in the main “All Categories” section. That means that the All Kids, Kids 5 & Under, Kids 6-8, and Kids 9-11 categories are currently displaying many apps that are inappropriate for kids (pictured above)....

[Update: Apple has responded to the leak.] Motherboard reports this evening that a GitHub user has shared the source code for Apple’s iBoot System, which is the part of the operating system that handles the trusted boot up process. At this point, it’s unclear where this source code came from, and its legitimacy hasn’t been 100 percent confirmed. The source code in question is for an iOS 9.3.x release, and while you can’t compile it due to missing files, security researchers say that you can analyze it and look for security vulnerabilities on which to capitalize....

The A Quiet Place Part II Super Bowl 2020 trailer is officially released online. Back in 2018, the original Quiet Place became a surprise breakout hit, riding waves of critical acclaim to $340.9 million at the worldwide box office. That kind of success ensured a followup would be made, and now A Quiet Place 2 is just a couple of months away from hitting theaters. John Krasinski is back behind the camera, directing a talented cast that includes his wife Emily Blunt, Cillian Murphy, and Djimon Hounsou....

Producer M. Night Shyamalan is working on a straight-to-series thriller for Apple, according to Variety. The show will be written by Tony Basgallop, and will run half an hour. Shyamalan will be directing the first of ten episodes. Jason Blumenthal, Ashwin Rajan, Todd Black and Steve Tisch will also be executive producers, with Taylor Latham co-executive producing. This will be Shyamalan’s second step into television after previously producing Wayward Pines, which just wrapped up its second season....

It took years but Apple CEO Steve Jobs finally has permission to tear down his hated house in Woodside to replace it with his own $8 million vision of what a billionaire’s home should be. Owned by former copper baron Daniel Jackling, Jobs’ Woodside house has been an ongoing soap opera as Jobs attempted to defeat local history campaigners to gain permission to replace the place. There even seems to be some question as to whether these plans are really what Jobs has in mind....

Today, it has revealed details about the modem that will be integrated into the chipset: the X12 LTE. The new modem from Qualcomm is first at a number of things and pushes the boundary in terms of the connectivity options offered by mobile processors. The first highlight of the X12 LTE modem is that it supports LTE Cat....

Even though an LG executive confirmed that the Snapragon 810 is not overheating, rumors and reports about the chip overheating have been constantly pouring in from various sources. According to a report from Bloomberg from earlier this week, the overheating issues has also forced Samsung to switch to its own Exynos processors on the upcoming Galaxy S6. A new report from the Wall Street Journal states that Qualcomm will be providing Samsung with a new version of the Snapdragon 810 chip in March with the overheating issues fixed....
