Qualcomm’s flagship chip for 2017, the Snapdragon 835, has been teased numerous times by the company since the beginning of this year, but devices powered by the chipset are still at least a month away from being released to the market. Qualcomm has already provided official performance improvement percentage numbers for the Snapdragon 835, but like always, marketing claims don’t always match up in real world benchmarks. A preliminary Snapdragon 835 performance preview posted by AnandTech, however, shows just how impressive (or disappointing) Qualcomm’s latest and greatest chipset is and how it stacks up against the competition....

Main FIFA competitor, Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) announced a major update to their mobile soccer game today for iOS. The game received a graphics engine overhaul, upgrading from Unreal Engine 3 to Unreal Engine 4, which should provide serious visual improvements over the previously featured third-generation engine. Love Google Now but cannot figure out why some cards never pop up for you, even though all the settings are right and you are doing everything right? Well, your Google account might just be the reason behind it. Google has been steadily improving Now by making it location and content aware and adding new cards that make use of the data from your Gmail account. However, even with all the Location settings and other options enabled, Google Now never displayed anything apart from the Weather and Birthdays card for me....

Update: As we warned, this particular Publix representative was misinformed. Publix is rolling out “Publix Pay” to its stores, not Apple Pay. Apple Pay is expanding to yet another notable holdout in the United States. Grocery chain Publix says that it is in the process of rolling out Apple Pay to all of its stores “within the coming weeks.” On Twitter this week, a Publix employee responded to a customer’s tweet asking when Apple Pay would be accepted at Publix locations....

We expect Apple to unveil three new flagship iPhones tomorrow: iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max with OLED screens and better cameras, and an entry priced model with LCD possibly called iPhone Xr that will introduce new colors. If the latest rumors from China are anything to go by, Qualcomm has delivered Samsung with a new revision of its Snapdragon 820 chipset with better thermal management and performance improvement of up to 5-10% compared to the previous revision. Due to the overheating issues with the Snapdragon 810, Samsung went with its in-house Exynos chipset on the Galaxy S6. However, the company is reportedly testing the Snapdragon 820 chipset for the Galaxy S7, which is expected to deliver better performance minus any of the overheating issues that plague the Snapdragon 810....

According to a new report from Reuters, a U.S. federal judge has issued a preliminary ruling this evening that Qualcomm must pay Apple nearly $1 billion in patent royalty rebate payments. The ruling comes from Judge Gonzalo Curiel of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California. As Reuters explains, contract factories that build the iPhone generally paid Qualcomm “billions of dollars per year” to use Qualcomm’s patented technology in the iPhone....
